hightlights of 2008
- YWCA Whangarei run a Y-Dub Club at Mangakahia Area School
- Girl Savvy Conference was held in Whangarei
- One Merc recreational outdoor pursuits days was run for 19 year 10 students from Whangarei Girls High School; focusing on body image, self esteem and leadership skills.
- LOVE YOUR BODY DAY 10 local organisations came together for a day of fun to celebrate love your body day. It was held at the pulse and run by Rock-Up a Mobile Adventure Program.
- YWCA Whangarei was part of Everyday Communities working party; this involved planning and assisting with community anti-violence events.
- Encore: After breast cancer exercise program was launched in KeriKeri.
- Body Real workshops delivered in schools. Body Real aims to help young people build positive self-esteem by understanding and dealing with feelings about physical appearance.
Encore
YWCA Whangarei has successfully launched its very first ENCORE after breast cancer (gentle) exercise programme in Keri Keri. We will run another course later in the year.
Encore is a eight week exercise programme designed for women who have experienced mastectomy, lumpectomy, or breast reconstruction surgery at any time of their life.
The Whangarei programme will be held at the Whangarei Aquatic Centre, Ewing Road, Whangarei on 25th February 1.00pm till 3.00pm. Attendance is by enrolment only and your specialist or GP approval is required.
